Practical tips: maximise your grants

1. Choose a registered contractor

All three regions require registered contractors. DIY works do not qualify for grants.

2. Gather your documents in advance

  • Quotes with detailed descriptions
  • Proof of income (tax assessment)
  • Identity document
  • Energy audit (mandatory in Wallonia)

3. Submit your application BEFORE starting work (in some regions)

In Wallonia, you must have an audit completed BEFORE starting any works.

In Flanders, you can apply after completion of the works (up to 2 years later).

4. Combine with other forms of support

  • Reduced VAT: 6% for certain works (insulation, windows)
  • Renewable energy bonus: Heat pump grants are often higher
  • Total renovation bonus: Larger projects may qualify for an additional bonus

5. Timing is critical

For Flanders: until 1 March 2026 all income brackets can apply for grants. After that date, restrictions apply for higher incomes.

For Wallonia: 14 February 2025 saw many existing grants discontinued. The new system is now active.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Can I claim grants for both roof insulation AND attic floor insulation?

A: No. In Flanders, you receive a grant for either roof insulation or attic floor insulation - not both, when the same space is concerned.

Q: How long does approval take?

A: Flanders: 3-8 weeks. Wallonia: 2-3 months. Brussels: currently uncertain.

Q: Can I combine renovation grants with a renovation loan?

A: Yes. In all three regions you can combine reduced-rate loans with grants. The grant amount is deducted from the loan balance.

Q: If I sell my home, can I still claim a grant?

A: You can apply for grants as long as you are the owner at the time of the invoice. Applying after the sale becomes more complicated. Check with your local authority.

Renovation grants 2025 Belgium offer substantial support - up to 50% in Flanders and up to 90% in Wallonia. For anyone planning to renovate, 2025 is a strategic moment: the changes are significant (Flanders in July, Wallonia in February, Brussels uncertain), so inform yourself now.
