What is Exclusivity (estate agent contract)?

When you instruct an estate agent, you can opt for an exclusive contract. This means that for an agreed period (usually 6 months) you may not instruct another agent, nor sell the property yourself without that agent's involvement.

Advantages

Exclusivity often makes the agent more motivated and keeps the message to the market consistent. Non-exclusive contracts also exist, but they are less common in practice.
