Since November 2022 an asbestos certificate has been mandatory in Flanders when selling homes and buildings built before 2001. There is no such obligation in Wallonia or Brussels.
Purpose of the certificate
The Flemish government wants Flanders to be asbestos-safe by 2040. The certificate tells the buyer where asbestos is present and how it should be managed or removed safely.
